The Randwick Guineas
Conditions: Group 1 Set weights 3yo
The final field of the Randwick Guineas with barrier draw, jockeys, weights, scratchings & betting odds will be published here.
History: First run in 1935 as a set weights race for 3yo, the Canterbury Guineas was originally raced over 1900m. In 2006 it was transferred to Randwick and the distance reduced to 1600m. Since then, winners have included Shoot Out (2010) Weekend Hussler (2008) and Mentality (2007).
Lead Up Races: Hobartville Stakes (1400m), Royal Sovereign Stakes (1400m). Australian Guineas (1600m).
The Track: Randwick is a large course with four sweeping turns. Generally fair, but tends to favour the on pace runners when the ground is rain affected.
Track Bias, Barriers: The 1600m start is located in a chute off the back straight. Long run before the first turn, but inside barriers have a slight advantage. They can race very wide in the home straight in search of the best going, but this can often leave an opening on the inside rail that can be taken advantage of with a smart ride.
Weight, Statistics: a set weights race for 3yo with the colts/geldings carrying 56.5kgs and the fillies 54.5kgs.
