The Race: Also known as The Queen Of The Turf, this race is a relatively recent arrival being first run in 1972 as a 1500m quality run at Rosehill. on Golden Slipper Day, in 2014 the race migrated to Randwick and became a 1600m WFA feature race for fillies & mares on the same day as the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Sydney Cup with the purse was raised to A$1million.
Lead-up form: Coolmore Classic, Surround, Futurity, Emancipation.
Track Bias: The 1600m start is located in a chute off the back straight. Long run before the first turn but inside barriers have a slight advantage. They can race very wide in the home straight in search of the best going, but this can often leave an opening on the inside rail that can be taken advantage of with a smart ride. Rail is usually moved out for the second week of racing at Randwick during The Championships which suits the on pace runners, particularly when the going is rain affected.
