The Magic Millions 2YO Classic
Track: Gold Coast - Queensland
Conditions: 2yo Set Weights (Restricted).
The final field of the Magic Millions Classic with barrier draw, jockeys, weights, opening betting odds & scratchings will be published here.
The Race: The Magic Millions Classic was first run in 1987 exclusively as a race for 2yr olds who had been bought through the Gold Coast Magic Millions Auction. Initiated by a couple of Australia’s most successful business people with an intense enthusiasm for everything to do with racing, it has become the focal point of a complete race day not only catering for 2yr olds in the Classic but other races offer distances up to 1800 for stayers with the entry proviso that they must have passed through the Magic Millions sales rooms which now happen all over the country. In the early days up until 2001 all the attention was on 2yr old performers but by 2007 any 'graduate' of the Magic Millions can get a run in something on the day.
The majority of Magic Millions Classic winners have been last start winners with two or more career starts. Many horses which do well in the 2yo Classic run well in the Golden Slipper at Rosehill, although to date only two winners have gone on to success in that race in March.
Time: Track record at the Gold Coast 1200m is 1:09.47 El Cambio
Support Races: Magic Millions Trophy, Magic Millions Cup, Magic Millions Stayers, Magic Millions Sprint, Magic Millions Fillies & Mares.
The Track: At the 1200m start the field launches in a short chute at the end of the back straight which leads quickly into the first of 2 curves. Backmarkers have to work hard to stay in touch. An inside draw and ability to race on pace is usually an advantage at this track and distance, it is rare for a horse to win at the 1200m start from a gate wider than 11.
