History: A new race in the Sydney Spring with the field comprised of up to 12 runners whose connections have purchased a slot in the race. First staged on 14 October 2017 and thereafter held on the second Saturday of October. It is the richest 1200m race on turf in the world and as such is expected to attract elite sprinters from Australia and around the world. In 2018 Redzel, the winner of the inaugural race, returned to win the race back to back.
Time: Track record for the Randwick 1200m is 1:08.15 (That’s A Good Idea)
Track Bias, Barriers: Randwick is a large course with four sweeping turns. Generally fair, but tends to favour the on pace runners when the ground is rain affected. The 1200m start is located in a chute off the course proper, angled run of 250m to the course proper then a straight run to the home turn. Inside barriers are a slight advantage.
Weight, Statistics: Run under Weight For Age conditions where runners are allocated weight based on their age and sex rather than their recent form. Younger horses will have an advantage in this if owners can secure a start as they will carry significantly less weight than their rivals.
