Sandown Saturday 18th Nov. 2017. Fixed Odds prices from Sportsbet on Friday afternoon.
Race 7 Zipping Classic G2 2400m.
Almandin finished a long way down the track in the Melbourne Cup, expected to bounce back here and back to the right distance. Big Duke has the blinkers on, good effort to finish 4th in the Cup and a top chance here. Assign has excuses at the last 3 starts but needs to improve a bit to shape as winning hope. The Taj Mahal is having his first start for Hickmott after transferring from O’Brien, has placed at G1 level in the USA.
Summary: Winning chances to Big Duke ($3.4) and The Taj Mahal ($4), place hopes Almandin ($2.5) and Assign ($20).
Race 8 Sandown Guineas 3yo G2 1600m.
Snitzpeg has been in work since August, blew the start and flew home at Flemington so have to include amongst the chances again but wonder how much longer his campaign can go on? Beau Geste has a very good strike rate in 6 starts with 2 wins, running on well last time and can place here. Black Sail has been 2nd at his last 3 and could be ready for a win in town but will there be one better again? Vinland’s 2 runs in town last year weren’t terrible and was a confident winner at Bendigo, they may have found the key to him. Villermont has had 3 good runs to date, placed here at his maiden run and looks suited. Peaceful State was an on pace winner at Ballarat with a decent margin to 3rd, can go on with it here.
Summary: Villermont ($5.5) looks well placed and next best Vinland ($10), consider Snitzpeg ($4.8), Beau Geste ($4.6) & Black Sail ($7.5) for exotics.
Race 9 Eclipse Stakes G3 1800m.
Raw Impulse has placed the last 2 and has a good record at this trip. Hard to fault the winning form of Dodging Bullets. Payroll is going okay in mares company and has placed in open class in QLD, can place here. Raghu is ex Hong Kong who did it well to win at Mornington, include as a value chance.
Summary: With stick with Dodging Bullets ($10) for one more win, Raw Impulse ($3.90) is the main danger. Place chances to Payroll ($6) and best each-way Raghu ($23).
Race 10 Summoned Stakes Mares G3 1500m.
Deja Blue won a Listed race at Geelong and has won 2 of 4 starts here, good odds in the early market. Invincibella put in a good run at Flemington and has had 4 top runs since resuming, go well again. Petition hasn’t finished worse than 4th in 11 career starts, flew home last time. Mrs Gardenia is going well in the country and has placed a few times in town including a win here on Lakeside. Long Time Ago is resuming but stable know how to produce them hot when fresh, likely to go forward early and can be in the finish.
Summary: Invincibella ($4.2) has the best form on paper, plenty of others to keep safe in the Quaddie including Deja Blue ($26), Petition ($2.80), Mrs Gardenia ($11) and Long Time Ago ($17).
Have a good weekend, happy punting.
