Randwick Race 7 The Everest WFA 1200m.
Very good field of sprinters for the inaugural $10million Everest at Randwick. Chautauqua has been slowly away 2 goes this time in, forecast is for showers and if the going becomes rain affected could be worth including. Vega Magic is unbeaten in the last 4 runs, likes to lead and if goes forward from the middle gate could be hard to catch. Redzel is drawn to take an early forward position and proven at this track, top 3 chance. Redkirk Warrior is a stablemate to Vega Magic, won the Newmarket first up but failed in 2 starts here on Heavy going, can figure if the going remains dry. Clearly Innocent is another who would come into contention on a genuinely wet track, most wins have been over further but was a food effort in the Stradbroke from a wide gate, nicely drawn here. Deploy led to win by 4 at Rosehill and has an excellent record here, beat the talented Egg Tart and might be value. She Will Reign was impressive winning the Moir when resuming, handles all going and lightly weighted.
Summary: tough assignment for the form analysts but I rate Redzel ($7.5), She Will Reign ($6.5) and Vega Magic ($4.8) the ones to beat. Plenty of place chances including Chautauqua ($5.5), Redkirk Warrior ($9), Clearly Innocent ($15) and Deploy ($15).
Caulfield Race 6 Thousand Guineas 3yo Fillies G1 SW 1600m.
Alizee is the Flight Stakes winner over this trip and that race is usually a good form guide for this, first go in Melbourne but big chance is she handles it. Pure Scot was last at the turn and blocked for a run but rattled home, this trip looks ideal and could be a value runner. Aloisa was 5th when resuming but has placed in the JJ Atkins over this trip, can place here. Leather’n’Lace was 3rd in the Edward Manifold over 1600, led throughout winning here previously and one of the main chances.
Summary: Alizee ($2.25) is the one to catch but Pure Scot ($26), Aloisa ($12) and Leather’n’Lace ($12) can find a place in the exotics.
Caulfield Race 7 Caulfield Stakes G1 WFA 2000m.
Hartnell is always thereabouts but found 1 better at his last 2, will probably place again. Gailo Chop was 3rd in the Underwood and a winner 5/8 at this distance, should be in the finish. Jon Snow is the Australian Derby winner who bounced back to the winners stall with the rise to 2000m, go well again. The Taj Mahal has only 1 win to date on synthetic but was 2nd in the Group 1 Secretariat and is nominated for the Cox Plate, interesting runner? Bonneval is racing well and a winner up to 2400m so have to rate highly.
Summary: So Bonneval ($3) is going to keep winning until she doesn’t, place chances to Hartnell ($3.3), Gailo Chop ($10), Jon Snow ($9) & The Taj Mahal ($15).
Caulfield Race 8 Caulfield Guineas 3yo G1 SW 1600m.
Showtime has gone from a maiden to Group 2 winner in last 2 starts if goes forward from the inside gate can be in the finish. Gold Standard won the Stan Fox which can be a good lead for this, not disgraced in the Golden Rose when it was hard to make up ground from midfield and this is easier. Salsamor was second to Showtime in the Stutt, all 4 runs with merit and could place again. Levendi ran on from last in Prelude which suggests the extra trip will suit, not the worst. Catchy was stopped by the big weight against the fillies last start, suited here and stable is flying.
Summary: last filly to win this was Surround in 1976 but Catchy ($4.5) is a chance, Showtime ($11) is the only last start winner in the race and Gold Standard ($9) can be very competitive. Place hopes to Salsamor ($24) and Levendi ($21).
Caulfield Race 9 Toorak Handicap G1 1600m.
Tosen Stardom has been looking for the longer trip but would be even better over 2000m, can place here. Comin’ Through didn’t have any favours in the run in the The Epsom, Walker goes back on and can bounce back. Egg Tart has a great campaign in the Autumn Carnival, resumed with a creditable 2nd to the handy Deploy and should go well. Mr Sneaky is a super horse for his lucky connections, rarely misses a place.
Summary: Think Comin’ Through ($11) can do better here with Egg Tart ($5.5) also a live chance. Including Tosen Stardom ($11) and Mr Sneaky ($8.5) amongst the chances but there are many more you could make a case for.
Have a good weekend, happy punting.
