Race 6 Vain Stakes 3yo CG 1100m.
Veranillo is unbeaten first up and trialled well in Sydney, has ability. Jukebox posted a strong win here before a spell and is expected to go well again. Kobayashi also resumes and was a winner here at last two. Ducimus is a likely leader back to own age here and could be hard to catch. Cliffs Edge beat the scratched Lone Eagle at Sandown, also rates highly. Poseidon’s Pool finished on well for a late win at Morphettville and won previous start at Ballarat on Soft. First starter A Thousand Degrees had a decent trial and has been the subject of an early betting move.
Summary: tricky start to the Quaddie, Jukebox ($3.5) has a lot of appeal but rate Veranillo ($13), Kobayashi ($4.8), Ducimus ($12), Cliffs Edge ($5), Poseidon’s Pool ($11) and A Thousand Degrees ($13) at least place chances.
Race 7 Lawrence Stakes 3yo+ G2 1400m.
Hartnell resumes here, handy without winning in good races last campaign and probably better over more ground but can place in this. Black Heart Bart is now 7yo but his last win was at this t/d so will have plenty of support. Star Exhibit is a winner at this t/d when last resuming and when on to run 2nd in the Doomben Cup, top hope. Charmed Harmony was not suited on a Heavy track when resuming, placed this t/d behind Star Exhibit.
Summary: Star Exhibit ($9.5) is value in the early market and well worth something each-way. Next best Hartnell ($3.2), Black Heart Bart ($3) & Charmed Harmony ($31).
Race 8 Regal Roller Stakes LR 1200m.
Vega Magic is an Ascot winner who ran on well to win at Morphettville and looks hard to beat. Lord Da Vinci hasn’t missed the quinella in last 6 runs and goes well fresh. Santa Ana Lane was a winner this t/d last year, down in weight and could be better suited this time. Schism is a last start winner back in trip, on pace runner that should be in the finish. Japanese import Brave Smash is reported to be working well for Weir and worth including on class, has had betting support. Souchez resumes after a couple of decent trials, competitive.
Summary: Vega Magic ($4.6) rates the one to beat on exposed form, include Lord Da Vinci ($8.5), Santa Ana Lane ($7.5), Schism ($11), Brave Smash ($3.8) and Souchez ($8.5) in the exotics.
Race 9 Handicap 1400m.
Here To There has placed twice this t/d and not far away at Flemington last start. Divine Mr Artie has a good record at this t/d and is overdue for a win. Ozi Choice led and was beaten less than a length at Flemington, in the mix. Tahanee is another import resuming for Weir, including on trust. Wayanka is a last start winner at Flemington 4th at this t/d 3 starts back, drawn well and rates highly.
Summary: Divine Mr Artie ($5) gets his chance to get back into the winners stall, place chances to Here To There ($13), Ozi Choice ($4.6), Tahanee ($6.5) and Wayanka ($4.6).
Have a good weekend, happy punting.
