Race History: First run in 1960 as Group 1 Hcp on Derby Day until 2007 when it was transferred to Emirates Stakes Day as a Group 1 Weight-For-Age.
Time: Record 1200m Flemington 1:07:16 Iglesia
Notable Winners: Hareeba (1994), Takeover Target (2004), Miss Andretti (2007), Black Caviar (2010/11).
The Track: Flemington is racing headquarters in Victoria, a spacious track with sweeping turns and a long home straight. Most runners will have their chance, even when the rail is out, but there can be an advantage to racing near the grandstand side of the course when the rail is out 5m or more.
Track Bias, Barriers: The 1200m start is in a chute at the beginning of the final straight and give all runners a chance because the run to the winning post is straight with no corners. Best ground is generally in the centre of the track but in large fields they will use both the inside and outside rails.
