History: The Caulfield Classic was previously run as the Norman Robinson Stakes and is held on Caulfield Cup Day. Run as a handicap until 1990, now run under set weight conditions.
Past Winners: not a race to attract many superstars to date, but that is likely to change with the alteration to conditions and prizemoney in 2014. Nothin' Leica Dane won this race in 1995 before going on to place second in the Melbourne Cup of that year.
Track Bias, Barriers: The rail is often out 5 or 6 metres on Caulfield Cup day following two days of racing at this track, this makes it difficult for runners to make up a lot of ground from the back of the field and inside barriers are usually an advantage.
Race Statistics: not usually a race for the fillies, although they have recorded minor placings, the majority of winners are colts or geldings carrying 55-57kgs.
Associated Races:
Toorak Handicap | Thousand Guineas | Caulfield Guineas | Caulfield Cup | Cox Plate | Melbourne Cup
