Canberra Racecourse:
Canberra Racecourse is located in the Australian Capital Territory, just 7kms outside of the city.
There are two tracks at Canberra, turf and all weather synthetic, racing is in the clockwise direction.
About Canberra Racetrack.
Feature Races, Barriers Info & Starting Positions:
Operated by the Canberra Racing Club, there are around 25 meetings a year including their annual Melbourne Cup meeting, featured races are the Black Opal Stakes and the Canberra Cup.
The track is laid out in a pear shape with the Thoroughbred Park Turf track on the outside and a synthetic all-weather track inside it, usually referred to as the Acton Track, allowing the Stewards to transfer if the Turf Track is considered unsafe to race on.
The turf track has three chutes coming into the back straight to improve the running for the sprint distances but the 1000m and 1200m starts tend to favour those drawn in and on pace coming into the last turn. The 1300m to 1600m starts are more open as horses have time to take up a position before the turn. For longer distance races up to 2400m. The final straight is around 400m so in all races it is possible to run on in all distances if good enough.
