The Arrowfield 3yo Sprint
The Race: Previously run as set weights for 3yr old colts and geldings in February as the Royal Sovereign Stakes, in 2014 the race was moved to the second week of the Autumn Championships Carnival in April, it is now held a week after the TJ Smith Stakes and with increased prizemoney at $500,000 and open to males and females as the Arrowfield 3yo Sprint.
Notable Winners: Hot Snitzel (2013), Lonhro (2002), Shaftesbury Avenue (1990 also won Emirates Stakes)
Best lead-up form: William Reid, Darby Munro,
Track Record: 1:08.15 That’s A Good Idea.
Track Bias: Rail is usually moved out for the second week of racing during the Championships which makes it difficult for the backmarkers to make up a lot of ground on the leading division, particularly at the sprint distances. Inside barriers are an advantage.
Date: April 2019
Conditions: Open 3yo
2018 Winner: Catchy
